Eclipse Preparation, SW Texas

In Uvalde and Eagle Pass, Texas, Mitzi Adams presented materials to prepare students, teachers, and the local community for the April 8 total solar eclipse.

On February 9, Ms. Adams spoke to middle-school students in the morning and to the local community in the early evening.

February 10 required a drive to the Eagle Pass campus of Sul Ross University where Adams spoke to current teachers, teachers in training, and university professionals.  The talks included descriptions of NASA and scientist careers within NASA, the TOPS program, solar anatomy and other phenomena, eclipse details, eclipse-viewing safety, and citizen science for the eclipse.

Adams handed out solar lenticulars (imagery from SDO), solar “pizzas” with information about Parker Solar Probe, and solar-viewing glasses.
