Interagency Implementation and Advanced Concepts Team’s (IMPACT) Presence at the International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS) 2023

Several team members from IMPACT attended International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS) 2023 to represent their respective projects on 7/17-21/23. In total, two tutorials, one hyperwall, three posters, and nine oral presentations were presented at the event in Pasadena, CA. Several team members also convened sessions and/or participated as invited speakers throughout the week.

Pontus Olofsson (ST11) and Katrina Virts gave a presentation of the Satellite Needs Working Group (SNWG) and the responsibilities of the IMPACT/SNWG Management Office. The presentation focused on the overall SNWG cycle and the assessment of the Earth Observation needs of Federal agencies as identified in the 2022 SNWG cycle.

Also, at IGARSS 2023, IMPACT) members Manil Maskey (ST11) and Slesa Adhikari collaborated with European Space Agency (ESA) and Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (ESA) to conduct the half-day, hands-on tutorial Using Open Data, Platform, and API from NASA-ESA-JAXA Earth Observation Dashboard. The primary goal of the tutorial was to educate Earth science researchers to work with thematically curated Earth science datasets from all three space agencies using simple APIs for analysis and visualization. This tutorial also provided an opportunity for IMPACT to train users on the resources available through the Visualization, Exploration, and Data Analysis (VEDA) project.

Finally, During the AdCom meeting at IGARSS 2023, Manil Maskey of IMPACT and ST11 was re-elected as the chair of the ESI TC. At the AdCom meeting, Maskey shared his vision for the ESI TC for the next two years. Additionally, Maskey discussed the Visualization, Exploration, and Data Analysis (VEDA) project, which the GRSS community will be able to use for some of its needs.
