Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer News

On 3/7/23, NASA posted "Vela Pulsar Wind Nebula Takes Flight in New Image From NASA’s IXPE", which included superposed Chandra and IXPE images of the Vela pulsar wind nebula – the remnant and aftermath of a supernova explosion from approximately 12,000 years ago.

On 3/10/23, the IXPE Observatory began a Target of Opportunity (ToO) observation of the accreting (stellar) black hole 4U 1630-472 in a steep power-law state, a factor-of-three brighter than for the previous IXPE observation (2022 August) in a thermal high soft state. Data from the NICER and NuSTAR missions were also obtained to help interpret IXPE data.
