SERVIR Highlighted in US State Department Report on Deforestation Reduction Programs

In 2023, the U.S. Department of State developed two reports in response to the White House’s Executive Order 14072 on Strengthening the Nation’s Forests, Communities, and Local Economies. One report addressed how the U.S. Government can help curb deforestation internationally through its work related to international trade and foreign assistance. That report highlighted how NASA broadly provides crucial information for understanding environmental changes internationally, including monitoring of deforestation. The work of the NASA Earth Action Capacity Building Program was highlighted, including the work of SERVIR (in partnership with USAID) and its sister program element, ARSET.

The report can be found at https://www.state.gov/wp-content/uploads/2023/05/Tab-3-EO-14072-Report-2-Reduce-Deforestation-Risk-FINAL.pdf, and a late May 2023 US State Department press release can be found at https://www.state.gov/reporting-on-whole-of-government-approaches-to-stopping-international-deforestation/
