Publication on Land Use Changes, Degradation, and Impact on Ecosystem Services in Asia and Southeast Asia

Krishna Vadrevu (ST11) served as the Lead Editor for a special issue featuring 30 published papers on the topic of "Land Use Changes, Degradation, and Impact on Ecosystem Services in Asia and Southeast Asia" in the Land Degradation and Development journal. The other co-editors include Garik Gutman (NASA HQ), Matsunaga Tsuneo (National Institute of Environmental Studies, Japan), and Chris Justice (University of Maryland College Park). Vadrevu published an Editorial summarizing all articles.

This Special Issue is a result of various SARI meetings in Asia. Out of over 90 submissions, 30 have been accepted, providing insights into land degradation and its regional impacts. The articles are categorized into four sub-themes: a) Remote Sensing and Geospatial Technologies for Land Use Cover Changes (LUCC) and Monitoring; b) Land Use/Cover Changes, Degradation, and Environmental Implications; c) Land Systems, Ecosystem Services, and Management; d) Agricultural Land Use, Soils, and Resource Management. The articles offer a comprehensive understanding of various issues on land use, degradation, ecosystem services, and agricultural soil management, contributing to enhanced and sustainable decision-making considering the changing LCLUC dynamics across diverse Asian countries.
