Hydrosar-NG Annual Progress Meeting and Advanced Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) Training

From 12/4-8/23, Meryl Kruskopf and Micky Maganini of the SERVIR Science Coordination Office (SCO) participated in a project meeting and training organized by Applied Science Team (AST) PI Franz Meyer at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks. This project meeting brought together members of the SERVIR Hindu Kush Himalaya hub, including Chief of Party Birendra Bajracharya, Rajesh Thapa, Sudan Bikash Maharjan, Mr. Sravan Shrestha, and Poonam Tripathi and members of the AST project team: Franz Meyer, Lori Schultz (ST11), Arif Albayrak, and Simon Zwieback. Members of the team presented on project progress including flood extent forecasting techniques, incorporating work from past and current ASTs, and using interferometric synthetic aperture radar for slope motion, while hub personnel had the opportunity to ask questions and provide feedback. In addition, there was a hands-on technical training in the use of ASF Vertex and MintPy to process SAR data for slope motion detection. Hub leadership were introduced to the many SAR capabilities at the Alaska Satellite Facility. This activity deepened the co-development of the project and enabled closer science support from the SCO.
