Satellite Needs Working Group (SNWG) Reports Finalized and Distributed

NASA led the assessment of 115 submissions to the SNWG 2022 survey of the high-priority satellite data needs of Federal civilian agencies. Each agency that submitted a survey receives a report with a detailed assessment of the satellite need; information and links for satellite missions, data products, and activities that help meet the need; and links to dozens of categorized training resources. Gerald Bawden (NASA’s SNWG assessment principal at HQ) and Pontus Olofsson and Katrina Virts of the SNWG Management Office provided scientific review and revision of reports. Each report was additionally copy-edited by Ashley Riddle, Derek Koehl, or Rachel Wyatt of the IMPACT Outreach and Communications team. The reports, totaling some 1,388 pages, were sent on 6/1/23 to OMB/OSTP/USGEO as well as the SNWG co-chairs. From thence, the reports will be sent to the Senior Executive Service (SES) leadership of each agency as well as scientists and subject matter experts within the agencies. NASA will present the outcomes of the SNWG-2022 assessment to OMB in the coming months, including new activities and solutions proposed to help meet the agency needs.
