NASA Black Marble Artificial Intelligence (AI) Training Dataset is Publicly Available on Amazon Web Service’s (AWS) Open Data

The Science Mission Directorate (SMD) Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) team led by Manil Maskey (ST11) has added another AI/ML training dataset into the Registry of Open Data on AWS. This latest dataset completes the team’s objective to publish training datasets from all five Science Mission Directorates. The newest addition is from the daily top of atmosphere data from NASA's Black Marble VNP46A1 product using VIIRS Day/Night Band and VIIRS thermal bands which was used for the detection of nighttime combustion (fire and gas flaring). Direct access to the dataset is at https://registry.opendata.aws/black_marble_combustion/. The full list of datasets from the SMD AI/ML team can be publicly accessed or downloaded by using the “NASA SMD AI” tag on the registry making it easier for users to discover data from all five divisions.
