Organized a NASA Cross-Center Artificial Intelligence (AI) Workshop

Manil Maskey (ST11) of the Interagency Implementation and Advance Concepts Team (IMPACT) led a successful NASA cross-center workshop on artificial intelligence (AI) with over 150 participants from academia, NASA, and industry. The primary objective of the workshop was to introduce NASA SMD’s AI/ML strategy for science and engage the science community from different centers to gather feedback on use of AI into their workflows to enhance their analyses for new scientific discoveries. The attendees discussed opportunities and roadblocks to the adoption of AI/ML technologies. The workshop is expected to yield several outcomes, including the documentation of opportunities and challenges for deeper integration of AI/ML workflows in a report that will be presented to HQ SMD management. The workshop also aimed to identify gaps and understand the current state of the art.

IMPACT team members: Rahul Ramachandran, Kaylin Bugbee, and Elizabeth Fancher also attended the workshop and presented on Foundation Model for Science, Science Discovery Engine, and Partnership activities respectively. Maskey opened the workshop with an overview of the NASA Science Mission Directorate’s AI initiative.
