European Space Agency (ESA) Approves Hinode Mission Extension

On 3/7/23, the Hinode Project Team (Hinode formerly known as Solar-B) was notified that ESA’s Science Programmer Committee (SPC) had unanimously approved the extension of the Hinode Mission, as had been proposed by ESA executives. This latest ESA extension of Hinode is good through the end of 2026 and is indicative of their expressed desire to continue supporting Hinode until the launch/operational onset of the Solar-C Mission.  This latest extension approval should be seen as a clear vote of confidence in the value of the Hinode Mission and it reaffirms the strong partnership that exists within Hinode between Japan, ESA, and the USA/NASA.
