Manil Maskey (IMPACT/ST11) led the development of SMD AI strategy in collaboration with the Potomac Institute for Policy Studies (PIPS). On 3/2/23, PIPS presented the strategy to the Science Management Council at NASA Headquarters. The strategy encompasses findings from interviews with SMD stakeholders, AI practitioners, and industry leaders; insights from NASA SMD AI reports; analysis of the current state of the art in AI; and examination of similar strategies employed by other government agencies. Its objective is to meet the need for a cohesive approach to AI within SMD to drive scientific progress. The presented strategy offers a comprehensive roadmap for the advancement of AI within SMD and highlights its potential to enable groundbreaking scientific research and improving operational efficiencies.
