Krishna Vadrevu (ST13) is a Lead author of Nature Scientific Reports Journal article "Spatial variations in vegetation fires and emissions in South and Southeast Asia during COVID-19 and pre-pandemic", published in October 2022. The article demonstrates a significant reduction in vegetation fires during the 2020 pandemic compared to 2019 and a decline in fire-related emissions in South/Southeast Asian (S/SEA) countries. However, the authors also note that the decrease in fires is not statistically significant compared to long-term fire datasets in S/SEA. The article also highlights the role of climate in driving vegetation fires and using fire radiative power to derive total particulate matter emissions. The results highlight the hotspots of vegetation fires useful for fire management and mitigation in South/Southeast Asian countries.
