Marshall Earth Scientists Participate in 2022 North American Hail Workshop

Sarah Bang, Dan Cecil, and Jordan Bell (ST11) attended and presented at the 2022 Second North American Workshop on Hail & Hailstorms in Boulder, Colorado during the week of 9/19/22. This workshop brought together researchers, meteorologists, stakeholders, and insurance industry partners to discuss the latest in all things hail.

Bang presented on passive-microwave satellite observations and the development of a global climatology and spoke on a panel discussing “from climatology to climate change.”

Cecil presented on the diurnal cycle of passive-microwave identified hailstorms and spoke on a panel discussing “observing hail: unique measurements and instrumentation.”

Bell presented on his work of developing a hail damage swath events database from daily SPC storm reports and MODIS imagery. Fruitful conversations were held at breaks and meals to further existing projects and explore future collaboration.
