IMPACT’s Airborne Data Management Group (ADMG) Visits NASA Ames to Aid with Air Photo Recovery

On March 3, 2022, Deborah Smith (ST11) traveled to NASA Ames to meet with Matthew Fladeland and  James Jacobson of the NASA Airborne Science Program to identify and address the need to transport, digitize and archive more than 25 years of airborne photos from the NASA ER-2, C-130 and other aircraft. Plans are underway for recovering and providing more careful stewardship of these important land surface photos.

ADMG members also played a key role in a successful NASA Airborne and Field Data Workshop A highly successful virtual workshop aimed at gathering feedback from airborne and field data users and data producers took place March 29-30, 2022.  Smith and Ge Peng (UAH) worked over a period of 3 months to plan the workshop with members from ESDIS and various NASA Distributed Active Archive Centers (DAAC).  Smith provided an introductory presentation on the ADMG and facilitated a session of invited speakers in addition to leading 3 breakout rooms.  Peng moderated a discussion towards the end of the two-day workshop.
