2021 NASA PI Launchpad Training

Linda Habash Krause and Heidi Haviland (ST13) completed the 2021 NASA Principal Investigator (PI) Launchpad Training from 6/14-25/21.  NASA HQ Science Mission Directorate (SMD) led the virtual workshop tailored for new mission PIs who are planning on submitting a NASA space mission proposal in the next few years.  Topics included building a science case, building a science team, developing partnerships with academic and commercial institutions, the need for diversity to form highly-effective teams, and communication strategies including development of the storyboard and elevator pitch.  Breakout sessions were held in small groups to work on exercises associated with participants’ specific research topics.  Real-time networking sessions were held with representatives from commercial institutions to provide options for space vehicle and ride-sharing solutions.  The 2021 Virtual PI Launchpad is a collaboration between NASA SMD, the University of Arizona, the University of Michigan, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, NASA/GSFC, and the Heising-Simons Foundation.
