Marshall Participation in First International Space Station External Payload Community of Practice Meeting

Timothy J. Lang (ST11) participated in the first International Space Station (ISS) External Payload Community of Practice (CoP) meeting on 5/14/21. The virtual meeting was sponsored by NASA Headquarters, and brought together multiple ISS science payload leads to discuss their instruments and to share lessons learned.  Lang represented the ISS Lightning Imaging Sensor (LIS), and he discussed the ISS LIS team’s experiences overcoming timing and radiation issues, as well as the planned move of ISS LIS to another location on the station next year. The CoP is expected to meet quarterly and one of its main goals is to improve the integration and operations experience for new and existing ISS external science payloads, including ISS LIS.
