Chandra Flight Director’s Board approves Normal Sun Offset Flight Software Patch

On 11/2/23, the Chandra Program’s Flight Director Board approved the Normal Sun Offset Flight Software Patch. This patch will change the spacecraft attitude an intermediate saving action, Normal Sun Mode, from 90 degrees to 160 degrees. This will prevent longer term dwells at a thermally undesirable attitude to a more favorable attitude. These dwells are necessitated by the delays caused by the gaps between ground support contacts combined with the length of time necessary to recover from Normal Sun Mode events. Marshall team members Bob Reilly/ST14, Deborah Hernandez/ES22, and Jodi Turk/EV34 contributed to development of the software patch.
