Blaze Petabyte-Scale Data Tata Transfer Architecture Developed Open-Sourced in NASA Software Catalog

In collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA), the Interagency Implementation and Advanced Concepts Team (IMPACT) at NASA MSFC developed software to enable data transfer at the petabyte-scale. The team, led by Brian Freitag (ST11), successfully transferred 5.7 PB of data, presented and published at the IEEE Cloud 2023 conference, and now has satisfied all of the requirements for open sourcing NASA-funded software. These requirements include, but are not limited, to a unique identifier for the software (i.e., DOI) and inclusion of the software in the official NASA software catalog. As part of a mass software release announced by NASA on 8/9/23, the Blaze architecture is now advertised as official NASA software to the public. This signifies another major milestone for the project in building a community around maintenance and future software optimizations. Availability of the software in NASA’s official catalog concludes the last mile for the project and further demonstrates the successful open-science collaboration between NASA Earth science and ESA Centre for Earth Observation for scientific advancement.
