Earth Science Branch Outreach at the Bonnaroo Arts and Music Festival

The Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival ran from 6/15-18/23 in Manchester, TN and was a focus for outreach by Marshall Space Flight Center, supported by staff in the Earth Science Branch. On 6/15/23, participants Hannah Pankratz (ST11/UAH), Kelsey Herndon (ST11/SERVIR/UAH), and Andrew Molthan (ST11) were given an opportunity to answer questions from attendees about NASA’s involvement in Earth Science research and applications. They were joined by Alex Melancon (ST11h/Disasters/UAH) in helping set up NASA’s overall booth presence at the festival. Hannah, Alex, and Kelsey remained on 6/15/23 and were joined by Lori Schultz (ST11) to answer questions by attendees about a number of NASA topics.

On 6/16/23, Earth Science participants Chris Hain (EST11), Jerika Christman (ST11/IMPACT) and  Molthan were panelists in two Q&A sessions offered during the Bonnaroo festival day. On 6/18/23, they closed out the event with Schultz and Pankratz joining Christman to staff the NASA booth for additional Q&A. Participants asked very detailed and technical questions during sessions and often approached panelists afterwards for follow-up. The NASA Booth operated throughout the weekend, providing the 80,000-estimated festival goers with the opportunity to continue conversations around Earth Science, data science, and related topics, plus astrophysics, heliophysics, planetary science and human spaceflight topics addressed by NASA colleagues throughout the weekend.
