Artificial Intelligence (AI) Training Datasets from Heliophysics and Astrophysics Divisions are Made Publicly Available on Amazon Web Services’ (AWS) Open Data Registry

NASA and AWS have a Space Act Agreement in place to explore best practices around discovery, access, and use of high-value NASA science datasets. Under this agreement, the Science Mission Directorate (SMD) Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) team led by Manil Maskey (ST11) has been adding AI/ML training datasets from each SMD division to the Registry of Open Data on AWS. The newest additions to the registry are from the NASA Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) mission and imaging data and associated identification labels for galaxy morphology from the Hubble Space Telescope. The full list of datasets from the team can be publicly accessed or downloaded at https://registry.opendata.aws/tag/NASA-SMD-AI/. More datasets are being added to the registry and will be tagged with “NASA SMD AI” making it easier for users to discover data from all five divisions.
