Participation in NASA Openscapes Champions Cohort

Emily Berndt (ST11) is participating in the NASA Openscapes Champions Cohort as part of a team led by Nadia Smith (STC). The NASA Openscapes Champions Cohort is a mentorship program that will comprise seven environmental and Earth science research teams. The goals of the Champions Cohort series is to help teams normalize open data science discussions, identify shared needs and how to address them, and how to think ahead so they can more effectively onboard themselves and others on new (and existing) projects. Teams can be from a research lab or group, a department or institute, multi-institution collaborative teams, or individuals. This is an excellent opportunity to not only define what it means for your team to leverage NASA Earthdata Cloud, but also to help shape DAAC-provided resources for future cloud adopters (see https://nasa-openscapes.github.io/champions).

Smith submitted a project to test and develop analysis tools in the cloud using the NASA CLIMCAPS dataset that is already stored in the NASA Earthdata Cloud and was one of seven projects selected to participate over the next few months. Over the course of the NASA Openscapes Champions Cohort, Berndt and Smith will learn techniques and tools to leverage the cloud and promote open science and sharing which will enhance SPoRT's satellite sounding research, product development, and stakeholder engagement.
