Interagency Implementation and Advanced Concepts Team (IMPACT) team members Manil Maskey, Rahul Ramachandran, Brian Freitag, Aaron Kaulfus, Aimee Barciauskas, Olaf Veerman, Leo Thomas, Iksha Gurung, and Muthukumaran Ramasubramanian are authors of a book chapter entitled “Dashboard for Earth Observation,” which was published in the book, Advances in Scalable and Intelligent Geospatial Analytics. The chapter delves into the subject of Earth observation (EO) dashboards and the unique challenges that arise when designing reusable EO dashboards for a diverse range of Earth science applications. The chapter explores these challenges in depth, with an emphasis on the application of open science principles during the development process. Additionally, the chapter introduces the Visualization, Exploration, and Data Analysis (VEDA) platform as a solution to the aforementioned challenges and requirements. The chapter assesses the current technologies that underpin the VEDA ecosystem and elaborates on the design choices made during the selection of these technologies, as well as the limitations of the design.
