Imaging X-ray Polarimetry Explorer (IXPE) Presentations at International Meeting and Fault Detection Update

An International Conference – Astrophysical Polarimetry in the Time-Domain Era – was held in Lecco, Italy from 8/28-9/1/22. IXPE team members from 5 countries gave a total of 7 IXPE science presentations covering a wide range of X-ray sources from neutron stars to active galactic nuclei.

IXPE loaded new fault detection parameters to IXPE to autonomously restore the Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver to the operational configuration after a GPS reset occurs on-orbit.  Ball Aerospace confirmed that new GPS fault detection worked as planned after a reset occurred on 8/26/22. With the new fault detection, GPS was restored to the operational configuration within  ~12 minutes.  Previous recoveries took over eight hours due to the ground intervention required. GPS timing is only required for a subset of IXPE science targets.
