Mobile App Using SERVIR-Mekong Air Quality Explorer Data Wins Thailand National Innovation Award

Smoke Watch, a mobile app developed by Dr. Nion Sirimongkonlertkul and her team from Rajamangala University of Technology, Thailand, was one of ten winners of the Thailand National Innovation Award in the “Social and Environmental Protection” area. The app uses data from the SERVIR-Mekong Air Quality Explorer (AQE) tool, which was collaboratively developed by the SERVIR Science Coordination Office, SERVIR-Mekong, and experts in Thailand. Smoke Watch uses the data to help detect wildfire in northern Thailand and send air quality warnings to nearby communities. Both Smoke Watch and the Air Quality Explorer were featured in a recent NASA video.
