IXPE began its 21-day, 24/7 Observatory-level thermal vacuum testing on 7/19/21. All pre-Thermal Vacuum limited performance tests were successfully completed along with “closed door” testing prior to chamber pump-down. MSFC thermal engineers from ES, system engineers, and project engineers were all on-site at Ball to support this testing. The Observatory will be powered-on and various performance tests will be performed throughout the 21-day test. The project expects thermal vacuum (TVAC) testing to continue through 8/9/21 and periodic status updates will be provided to MSFC management, HQ, and Program Office stakeholders throughout the test period.
