Delivery of the Veto Detector for the Solar Neutrino Experiment (NUSOL)

The Veto detector developed at MSFC/UAH was delivered to Wichita State University (WSU) and integrated with the core detector to complete the assembly of the laboratory proto-type instrument. After verifying the Charged Particle Telescope performance, ground level data for the prototype system was collected overnight resulting in 648 triggered events. Preliminary analysis of the data shows that the Veto Detector rejected all charged particle events during this abbreviated run. Additional data will be collected to support the NASA Innovative Advanced Concept (NIAC) Phase-II final report and to improve our understanding of the systems’ performance. The nuSol project is supported through the NIAC and a Phase-III proposal has been submitted and selected to continue this development. The nuSol is led by the WSU and supported by North Dakota State University, JPL & MSFC/UAH.
