Successful HQ On-Site Project Review for New Transform to Open Science Project Office

The Transform to OPen Science (TOPS) MSFC Project office team - Amanda Adams (CS10), Paul Bremner, Kaylin Bugbee (ST11), Myra Chandler (RS60), Adam Farragut (CS10), Shannon Gant (ST14), Shawn McEniry (CS10), Dave Meyer (ST14), Jaclyn Stursma (CS10), and Kyle Westbrook (ST14) - organized and presented a full project review to Science Research and Projects Division, Science and Technology Office, and HQ leadership. The TOPS program at HQ is new and its mission is to shepherd all NASA science to be more open, transparent, and inclusive. The newly formed MSFC TOPS Project Office (MSFC-PMO) is tasked with managing and executing the TOPS mission. As part of this effort, the MSFC-PMO coordinates with Ames Research Center to create a five-module training course about open science for researchers across the globe and organizes and manages about 40 subject matter experts across multiple NASA centers.

On 4/13/23, the MSFC TOPS Project Office successfully presented a full project plan, key performance indicator plan, and communications plan to HQ TOPS leadership. During the visit, the MSFC-PMO also conducted a community forum hosting last year’s Space Apps Challenge winners in the open science category, as well as coordinated with Science Research and Projects Division  leadership to host Steven Crawford (HQ-DK000) for a townhall discussion about NASA’s new open science policy, SPD-41a.
