SERVIR Mekong Presents on Air Quality Monitoring Service

On 7/21/22, representatives from the SERVIR-Mekong hub presented a talk on “An air quality monitoring and forecasting system for Southeast Asia” at the International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS 2022), which showcased joint work done by a SERVIR hub and the SERVIR Science Coordination Office (SCO). This air quality system uses NASA’s Modern-Era Retrospective analysis for Research and Applications, Version 2 (MERRA2) reanalysis data of aerosols and meteorology along with machine learning models to estimate the surface concentration of fine particles in Thailand. In addition, the system monitors air quality and fires using historical and near real-time observations from multiple satellite sensors. The current and forecasted air quality data produced using this system will assist in environmental monitoring in the Mekong region.
