Thailand Astronaut Scholarship Program Students Travel to Huntsville

Krit Kunplin and a delegation from Thailand made up of student scholarship winners, members from academia, business, marketing, and the influential BNK48 Thai Idol music group visited Huntsville, Alabama, 4/25-29/22. Thailand has been a close ally and diplomatic partner with the United States for over 200 years. Kunplin, a U.S. Space and Rocket Center (USSRC) Ambassador, is the founder of Thailand’s space training education program and plays a leading role in efforts to strengthen youth Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) initiatives in Thailand. With the cooperation of the U.S. Embassy in Thailand, Kunplin organized the Thailand’s Astronauts Scholarship Program under the supervision of the USSRC.  Scholarship winners attended the USSRC Space Camp, while the delegation met with the University of Alabama in Huntsville and local organizations to further strengthen U.S.-Thailand relationships. The NASA SERVIR Science Coordination Office (SCO) provides scientific and technical support to co-development activities at SERVIR hubs, including the SERVIR-Mekong hub in Bangkok, Thailand. The delegation visited the SCO on 4/26/22 to discuss overlaps in education initiatives, particularly regarding existing SERVIR efforts in the region such as youth/student exchange programs and increasing Indigenous training and overall involvement.
