Advanced Telescope for High Energy Astrophysics (ATHENA) X-ray and Cryogenic Facility (XRCF) Mirror Module Calibration and Testing

The Kickoff for Moog Contract on 4/11/2022 for the Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE) and Metrology Motion Control Systems (MMCS) Final Design, Fabrication, AI&T, and Commissioning. This effort is in support of the European Space Agency (ESA)/NASA Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC) Advanced Telescope for High- Energy Astrophysics (ATHENA) Program.  Approach, scheduled tasks and deliverable overview were presented to the NASA Athena XRCF Team.  An initial risk-reduction assessment of the Center of Curvature Optical Bench (CoCOB) hexapod will be conducted on-site at the XRCF by mid-May and is intended to identify early, any required components that may have long-lead times, as well as operation of the hexapod prior to shipment to Moog’s facility.  The MGSE motion stages hardware and software will be utilized to accurately position the ATHENA Mirror Assembly Module (MAM) during the Mirror Assembly Module Demonstrator (MAMD) testing and subsequent calibration test campaigns.
