SERVIR-Eastern and Southern Africa Hub Organization Hosts Annual Conference as Virtual Event

The Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD), the host organization for SERVIR-Eastern and Southern Africa (SERVIR-E&SA) in Nairobi, Kenya, held its annual RCMRD International Conference (RIC) 2021 as a virtual event on 8/17-19/21.  Exhibitors for the well-attended event included the African Group on Earth Observations (AfriGEO), Digital Earth Africa, SERVIR-E&SA, the European Space Agency’s Global Monitoring for Environment and Security (GMES) Programme, Esri, Regional Resource Hub, the Alliance for Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), the Network of Excellence on Land Governance in Africa (NELGA) Land Data Hub, Forest Observatory of Eastern and Southern Africa, Airbus Defense and Space, Malawi Agricultural Commercialisation (AGCOM) Project, Maxar, the Land Governance Help Desk, and Regional Centre Training Institute.

Dan Irwin (ST11), SERVIR Global Program Manager, served as a guest speaker for the event; Mr. Eric Anderson, SERVIR Science Coordination Office (SCO) Associate Chief Scientist, moderated a session on Resilience Building, Climate Mitigation & Adaptation Strategies; and Sara Miller, SERVIR-E&SA Regional Science Associate at the SERVIR SCO, moderated a session on Water and Hydroclimatic Disasters. The theme of this year’s conference was Reflecting on Resilience: Mapping Development Challenges & Solutions for a Better World.
