Organized First NASA Science Mission Directorate (SMD) Data Discovery Workshop

Kaylin Bugbee (ST11) and Mark Parsons (University of Alabama in Huntsville) organized the first SMD data discovery workshop as part of the SMD Strategic Data Management Working Group’s (SDMWG) open source science initiatives.  The two-day workshop brought together a group of experts from both heliophysics and the biological and physical sciences to further refine an interdisciplinary use case focused on the impacts of radiation on biological entities in low Earth orbit. The use case will be leveraged to develop requirements for the SMD catalog effort. A second workshop will be conducted later in the year to develop a use case about comparative studies of planetary atmospheres. A comprehensive workshop report will be written once both workshops are completed.
