Organized a Successful Global Hackathon On Earth Observation Dashboard for COVID-19

Manil Maskey (ST11) of the Interagency Implementation and Advanced Concepts Team (IMPACT) in collaboration with Booz Allen Hamilton organized a successful EODashboard hackathon. The purpose of the hackathon is to build awareness of the COVID-19 Earth Observation Dashboard worldwide, as well as to solicit ideas from the community that can be integrated into -- and help improve -- the Dashboard.

In total, 4,342 people registered for the hackathon from 132 countries/territories. Over the week, 508 teams were formed using our virtual team formation platform, 245 of which submitted projects. Over 48,000+ chat messages were exchanged on our chat platform. 91,502,812 people saw the content using social media engagement. Additionally, 50+ subject matter experts (SMEs) from NASA, ESA (European Space Agency), and JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) were engaged with participants in the chat rooms and most will now embark on judging the submissions and choosing winners.

The winning teams will have the opportunity to integrate their projects into the Dashboard (or be featured on it). They will also be invited to attend a NASA launch and receive special access to ESA platforms and JAXA data -- among other rewards.
