SCOSTEP “Capacity Building Lecture” Presentation

Alphonse Sterling (ST13) gave an installment of the “Capacity Building Lecture” series, organized by the Scientific Committee on Solar-Terrestrial Physics (SCOSTEP).  SCOSTEP is a sub-body of the International Science Council focused on solar-terrestrial research.  Sterling has been a Scientific Discipline Representative in solar physics for SCOSTEP from 2015.  His presentation, entitled “An Overview of the Sun’s Structure, and a Closer Look at Solar Magnetism and Activity,” introduced solar physics concepts at a level aimed at upper undergraduate or graduate students who are studying solar-terrestrial physics with a focus other than the Sun.  The presentation was on 4/28/21, with about 30 participants world-wide.

Recordings of the Capacity Building lectures, including that Sterling, are available at: https://cicr.isee.nagoya-u.ac.jp/site1/info/scostep_lecture.html.
