Convective Data Products Converted for use by NOAA

The Short-term Prediction and Research Transition (SPoRT) Center converted convective weather products produced by NASA Langley into a format for use by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Ocean Prediction Center, Warning Prediction Center, and the Tropical Analysis and Forecast Branch. The Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellites (GOES) Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI) data are acquired at the NASA/MSFC GOES receiving stations then disseminated to NASA Langley where the derived convective products are generated. SPoRT acquires these derived products and converts to the Advanced Weather Interactive Processing System (AWIPS) format that is compatible with the NOAA decision support systems and disseminated the data via the Local Data Manager Service to NOAA.

Quicklook images of the data products are available through the NASA/MSFC web service at https://weather.msfc.nasa.gov/cgibin/sportPublishData.pl?dataset=larcconvective.

The NOAA agencies have a special interest in using the products to help with analyzing/forecasting marine convection that may pose significant hazards to mariners.
