Interagency Implementation and Advanced Concepts (IMPACT) Satellite Needs Working Group (SNWG) Management Office – Cycle 3 Assessments

The SNWG team is in engaged in several efforts to complete the SNWG Cycle 3 Assessment Phase. In coordination with HQ leadership, the team met across the month of April with Program Scientists to identify and prioritize Solutions to the 123 Cycle 3 Needs expressed by other US Agencies. Following this assessment, HQ down-selected 14 Solutions to propose to the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). The IMPACT team developed high-fidelity cost estimates for each of the 14 Solutions. Many of the Cycle 3 Solutions have multiple components, thus the cost estimation activities required close coordination with program scientists for the various NASA thematic areas, science data algorithm subject matter experts, NASA Applied Sciences, the Commercial Smallsat Data Acquisition (CSDA) program, the Earth Science Data and Information System (ESDIS) Project, and several Earth Science Branch data production specialists.

The SNWG Management Office at IMPACT will present the Cycle 3 Solutions’ cost estimation roll-up to HQ leadership on 5/4/21. In addition, the SNWG team at IMPACT is assisting leadership with preparing the presentation for SNWG Cycle 3 to the OMB, targeted for early June. The team is contributing analysis metrics for Cycle 3, short summaries of the selected Solutions, and an analysis of the level of effort vs level of satisfaction to be achieved by the various proposed Solutions. The SNWG team is also assisting HQ with preparing Final Report responses to the submitting agencies for the 123 needs.
